Prussell Universes

These universes are designed to mimic the Russell indices. They are not the official Russell universes. We created them following their guidelines as much as possible.

The Prussell Universes are formed by selecting the top 3000 stocks of the "Investable Universe" of stocks measured by total Market Cap. The top 3000 companies represent a significant portion of the domestic US market.

The "Investable Universe" is defined as stocks which: The resulting list of stocks, the investable universe, is then sorted by market capitalization. The following classification is then made: The Prussell universes are reconstituted annually and do not have survivorship bias. If a stock moves to the OTC exchange after reconstitution dates, it is excluded and not replaced. Securities that leave the index between reconstitution dates, for any reason including mergers, acquisitions, or similar corporate action are not replaced. Therefore, the number of securities in the index over the year will fluctuate according to corporate activity. The following Market Cap based universes are available:

Deprecated Prussell Universes

The following are previous versions of our Russell universes. There are two differences with the above: they do not exclude MLPs and do not exclude stocks that move to the OTC after reconstitution.
