I’ve been using trade with ib for about a month now without issues.
This morning I was preparing to send some orders for tomorrow morning, and I noticed the account and activities page shows the wrong database and shares. Let me explain:
I noticed the error because i got the error there were not enough shares to close the position. I looked on the account and I had the exact amount. I looked on account and activities of trade and noticed the problem: the page is seeing my OPTIONS as shares and not seeing my share positions. For example it shows 120 shares of yahoo but these are options. It shows 70 share of QQQ but these are options and does not show the 523 shares of QQQ I DO HAVE.
Help! I want to send the order to continue the system I have been testing for the last month
So we added this “safety-check” to avoid unintentional shorting. In P123 you have to be explicit when you want to short. IB only does buys & sells, and if you sell without having enough shares a short position will be opened.
The safety-check seems to work well, as long as we have the correct positions data of course. We didn’t anticipate IB sending us Oyption positions since our interface is not “allowed” to do options. The option position is probably coming after the equity position thereby overwriting it. We’ll look into it Monday
In the meantime I can turn off the safety-check for your account.
We may also add the capability to turn off the safety-check since the positions in TRADE can become stale if you trade outside of TRADE.
Yes, i came confirm the correct stock quantities are present in IB so you can turn off the short protection until you solve the options issue.
Generally I am testing TRADE slowly and with every trade so nothing weird should happen.
I can also confirm that a bunch of my option positions are showing up in the Accounts page of TRADE and some are even set as negative (shorts) positions because the contracts are short but displaying as STOCK positions. Hope this helps.
I disabled the check for your account only. We should be able to fix the problem with options. But once we identify the positions as options I’m not sure we can do much beyond just ignoring them since we don’t have any option data. We do want to improve the TRADE account page though. For starters we are storing daily liquidation,cash,leverage values so we could show some charts. Maybe add the ability to “add cash” transactions to TRADE accounts so you can mirror your IB inflows and outflows and we’ll be able to calculate IRR. Let us know how we can improve TRADE. Thanks.
