How to invite members to a group?

Perhaps I’ve gone blind but I can’t find the mechanism for inviting people to a group.

Can’t figure it out either. Investigating. Thanks

Looks like the left menu with the ‘Invite Members’ link is not being displayed. We’ll have this fixed later today.

thanks for reporting

You should now see the ‘Invite Members’ link on the left when you click on one of your groups.

Can we allow trial members access to groups?

Sorry, it’s our policy that trial users can’t access collaborative groups.

Can the policy be changed? What’s the reason for the policy?

We had some issues with people using the feature in trial accounts to avoid paying for subscriptions. We’re not going to change it.

Hmm, I’m not sure what that exactly means. Is there some feature of groups I’m missing? They still lose access after 15 days, right? Or were there people creating multiple accounts to gain continuous access to groups? Still not sure what that really gains you. I’m sure you guys have a good reason, I’m just not understanding it.

In my experience, it is very difficult to recruit new people to sign up for a trial because once they sign up they are lost. I have a group with tons of beginner screens, ranking systems, etc. that new members could potentially access and I can help walk them through and they can see how things work. Otherwise it’s like being thrown into the deep end as a new user. And most people won’t pay the $35/month for something if they’re not even sure how it works.

The only other way right now would be to make these beginner screens, etc. public which I don’t really want to do, which is why I set them to “group visibility”. Is there another way to give certain members access to a specific group of screens/rankings/ports without using groups and without making them public?

No, you seem to have caught the gist there. I don’t feel the need to go into more detail about how people were abusing the feature, much as the post office doesn’t usually give howtos on committing mail fraud.

I will say that I am available to walk people through the site. After they sign up, I’d be more than happy to give a demonstration, and I frequently help people with their rules. (As I often say, even if we can’t do something that you’re looking to do, at least that response will save you time.)

I know that it’s not a particularly appealing option, but you can always share rules by copying and pasting them. And as you point out, trial users can access public screens.

Yeah, I can also walk them through the rules. The feedback I’ve gotten is they want to tinker on their own, which is why I set up the group with the screens and such available to them that they can read through and copy/play with.

It seems for now I’ll have to go the route I’ve seen others go and develop tutorial articles to send trial members that they can copy and paste rules from. More onerous yes, but looks to be the only option right now.

So this must be limited to screens only? I just tried to share a public ranking system with a trial member and they can’t access it.

I said screens, but it would be more accurate to say that public stuff is public.

What is their username? I’ll check to see if there’s a problem.

sbracewell

and the ranking system i sent them was this: https://www.portfolio123.com/app/ranking-system/292980

To add to this, I sent the same user a public screen and they weren’t able to access that either.

Any update Paul?

We are investigating this now.

Any update?

Is it because I changed my username a while ago and my referral code is associated with my old username? Not sure why that would matter…just throwing out ideas.

Ted says that trial users should now be able to see all public systems. Let me know if that’s not the case.
