COVER to close position

In my Monday morning model rebalance email, one of my positions said this: COVER to close position

I have never seen that before. Normally it says “sell to close position”.
What does that mean?

Tony

Cover would normally mean to buy to close out (“cover”) a short position.

I don’t think that is what it means in this context.

There was a split error in last week’s transactions that caused a small short position. (The split happened at the same time as the sale.) So the strategy had to cover for that short position this week.
