Live port of live ports

A seemlingly simple question but I haven’t figured it out the answer.

I have several live strategies that I trade. They have different portfolio amounts, different start dates, etc. I do not have a TRADE account as my broker is not supported.

Is there a way to combine all of my live trading ports so I can track my overall portfolio performance, i.e. a live port of a live port? I would like to see all holdings, see different stats for the entire port, i.e. “allocation” screen for all my ports combined.

I tried live books, but this is more to start from scratch. And it requires you to set weights for each port within the book. As I already have different weights/amounts for each port, weights in the books don’t apply (and they change depending on the performance of each port).

Thanks in advance!

Ryan,

If you goal is to just track your performance, I think P123 has done a great job with ‘Accounts’ on the home page.

I upload all of my trades from my broker during the week over the weekend. The upload of the transactions is a iittle easier than with ports so it would be no problem to do it daily if you need to examine the holdings and trades each evening or in the morning before trading.

A lot of data can be integrated into the list of the holdings. For example, you can see the analyst trends, price target, or fundamentals for each of your holdings within Accounts.

It can be integrated with ports, I think, but I have not explored this. I think (maybe) that you cannot get aggregated recommendations like you can with a Books. But I am not sure. I am pretty sure that there are capabilities that i am not familiar with.

Anyway, excellent for uploading all of your trades from a broker and following your entire portfolio while getting a lot of additional information/statistics integrated within Accounts.

Best,

Jim

Thanks Jim. I’ve played with the Accounts a little bit, and I’ll try it to see other useful stats on my holdings as well.

What I was looking for was the same sort of format/presentation as the live sims, with equity curve, all holdings, allocations, risk stats, etc, but for all of my ports combined. For example, at any given moment I can see exactly my YTD return encompassing all ports/holdings, overall industry concentration (like on the allocation page), etc.

Cheers,
Ryan

You can get equity curve (YTD or any length of time you want), all holdings, allocations (including sector concentration), and all transactions with the strategy/account/manage setup. I put all my live accounts into one strategy and upload all my transactions every evening. You could keep them as separate strategies within one account if you’d prefer. As Jim says, you can get all sorts of great information about your holdings. It’s the ultimate way to keep track of your investments. The only thing we haven’t implemented yet for accounts/strategies is risk statistics.

OK, now I’ve got it. This is a fantastic feature, shame I’ve only realized this functionality until now. Thanks Jim & Yuval!

Still playing with it, but can you upload each port separately, then see overall stats for all holdings in a common output? Or do you have to combine all transactions from all ports into one?

Just want to add that this has no problem mixing stocks and ETFs which is probably the main reason I started using this (but only one of the reasons for staying with it).

And I am not sure how Marco aggregates the news but the news aggregator seems far superior to Yahoo’s. It is certainly cleaner with no advertisements.

The prices are updated live during the day so you can look at this or your broker account during the day and get the same information.

You can create accounts with multiple strategies and then see the holdings, performance, transactions etc. for the entire account or for each strategy individually. So there’s real flexibility with grouping.

Getting there. There seems to be a discrepancy between returns of my live ports and performance in the account/strategy module after I download all transactions. Seems everything is accounted for. For example, I have two live ports which have returned 14% and 26% YTD, however when transferred over as a “strategy” under an account (I used “manual”), returns are 22% and 35% respectively.

I’ve uploaded with and without transaction costs (in case they’re included in the total amount), with no change.

Any ideas what’s causing the discrepancy? Am I missing something in the transfer?

Thanks in advance.

Cheers,
Ryan

The calculation of returns in a live strategy includes cash. The calculation of returns in a strategy in Manage excludes cash.
