How to get GBTC to show up?

I'm having trouble getting GBTC (https://www.portfolio123.com/app/stock?tab=timeline&t=GBTC) to show up in a universe or a simulation. I've tried various stock and ETF universes, with Ticker("GBTC") as a rule, but can't find it. How do I get to it?

Because it is not GICS classified, it will not be available in research.

Re: How to get GBTC to show up?

My apologies. I looked at the snapshot page and, seeing a stock snapshot, assumed it was a stock. It looks like Compustat currently has it listed as a stock. I'll escalate the issue. Thanks for reporting it.

Re: How to get GBTC to show up?

This is technically not a stock. It's trust units. More specifically, it's privately placed trust units:

[Grayscale Investment products] are privately offered investment vehicles available to institutional and accredited individual investors through their respective private placements.
(From the company's Web site.)

They do say that the share prices are publicly quoted on OTCQX, which is why they're showing up in our database at all.

In any case, this sort of thing has shown up in the past -- I believe that we specifically remove Publix quotes from the data for the same reason. I would not expect any private equities to appear in the research section.

By the way, if you're really interested in this you can get more information here. (Note that I am only providing a link, not selling, advising, recommending or in any way endorsing.)
