Edit Trade Orders to multiple accounts no longer working

Since the new update I have noticed for the last 2 weeks that I have been unable to edit my broker account when submitting an order to Interactive Brokers. I used to be able to select an account and then once I added the recommendations you were then able to change the Investment account. You can no longer edit the investment accounts so that you can send trade orders to your broker to more than one account. This is especially problematic because in a registered account you must have enough cash to send a buy order and if the sell order is to a different investment account then I have to delete the recommendation for that stock and manually enter the order to IB. Please fix this function as it was very useful and saved a lot of time entering orders. Thank you

Mike, looks like you are using TRADE in a way we did not anticipate. Looks like you are investing in a strategy (a Live Strategy in your “Research”) using multiple accounts. So for ex. if the strategy has 10 positions, you buy 3 in account A, 3 in account B and 4 in account C , depending on where there’s money available. Prior to the new release you were able to change the account in an order, which made it possible. But it’s a tricky and dangerous way, since when you sell you have to pick the right account, otherwise you will end up with a short. We also think we understand the underlying reason: to minimize the number of transactions (as opposed to buying the 10 positions in each of the 3 accounts).

As I said, with the new release we don’t support this . In Invest you can follow your single Research strategy in multiple accounts, but it will only let you follow an entire strategy in each account, not distribute it. A future enhancement to Invest will be the ability to group accounts and treat them as one. When this “master account” follows a strategy it will direct the orders wherever it can; and when selling, it will do it in the right account.

I think the planned enhancement will do what you want. As a work around for now we will allow changing the account so you can keep doing what you were doing. However, we will only allow account changes if the order is placed from Research (should be ok for you since you don’t seem to be using Invest)

Sorry about this. We’re trying to introduce a new framework (Invest) to make investing easier . Thanks for sharing this. Let me know if I missed something.

Marco That would be great if you could allow me to do edits to accounts from Research, that would solve my problem. I have 2 registered accounts with Interactive Brokers for my wife and 2 registered accounts for myself and one shared Investment account. If I mistakenly select the wrong account to sell a position from I receive a warning from IB saying that this account (registered) does not allow short sales.
I would like to do everything from Invest but it seems to be an onerous task to reconcile the various accounts and strategies. Additionally being from Canada I have some Canadian strategies and since trade is not yet supported for CAD stocks I would not be able to do a proper reconciliation.
Typically for strategies that have only 5-8 holdings I try to do the buying and selling from one account. Some weeks if 2-3 of 6 stocks are being sold that works well. But if 5-6 of 6 stocks are being sold and rebought with new positions then I require a lot of excess cash in the registered account in order to do all the transactions so typically some trades have to be sent to my non-registered account. Thank you for your quick response.
