Where is the Praxair (PX ticker) prior to its merger with Linde

Hi,

I am working on the Dividend Aristocrat stocks. Praxair was in this list in Jan 2018
But Praxair (PX) and Linde (LIN) merged in Oct 2018.

If I believe the link below the PX ticker disappeared and the trading ticker became LIN.
https://www.gasworld.com/praxair-linde-to-complete-90bn-merger/2015680.article

However, I cannot find a PX^_ (with _ = some number) in our P123 search stock tool

Are we to assume that for PX prior to 31 Oct 2018, we should use LIN?
Somehow, it feels wrong…

Many thanks

Jerome

"What happens now?

The Business Combination will now undergo the final stages of the shareholder process over the next seven days, with the parties expect the transaction to close on 31st October 2018.

The closing process will occur in two steps. Firstly, there will be the settlement of the Linde plc exchange offer to Linde AG shareholders, which has been accepted for approximately 92% of Linde AG’s outstanding shares. Linde plc expects that Linde AG tendered shares will cease trading at the close of the Frankfurt Stock Exchange on Friday 26th October 2018 and that Linde plc shares will commence trading on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange under the stock ticker symbol ’LIN’ on Monday 29th October 2018.

Concurrent to the delisting of Linde AG tendered shares, the stock ticker symbol for Linde AG shares that have not accepted the exchange offer will change to ’LNA’ and continue to be listed on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.

Shares of Praxair, meanwhile, will cease trading at the close of the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) on Tuesday 30th October 2018 and trading in Linde plc shares is expected to commence on the New York Stock Exchange on 31st October 2018 under the stock ticker symbol ‘LIN’.

Linde plc will seek inclusion in the S&P 500 and DAX 30 indices.

As part of the business combination agreement, Praxair shareholders will receive one share of Linde plc for each Praxair share they hold. Linde AG shareholders who accepted the exchange offer will receive 1.54 shares of Linde plc for each Linde AG share tendered. Fractional shares will be aggregated and sold in accordance with the terms of the exchange offer document and the business combination agreement. Shareholders with fractional shares will receive cash in an amount representing such holder’s proportionate interest in the net proceeds from the sale."[/i]

Another observation for AOC (AON corporation = the insurance broker). They changed ticker in 2009 from AOC to AON.

We need to input AON in the stock search tool to get all the history. AOC does not exist in our database.
I guess here is not a problem since there was no merger - just a ticker change. But interesting to understand how the tickers are stored in the database.

Surviving companies can become kind of complicated. From our perspective, it is whatever company’s shares inherit the history, and every stock is identified by its last known ticker.

AON is AON, not AOC, because its last known ticker is AON. Every once in a while I’ll get someone asking why they own shares before they existed. This is the general reason; you didn’t own AON way back when, you owned AOC, but we identify it as AON.

As for PX and LIN, PX became LIN (“Praxair shareholders will receive one share of Linde plc for each Praxair share they hold”) and the old Linde shares became inactive (“Linde AG tendered shares will cease trading”). Try going to our advanced stock search page and searching for company name Linde and status Any and you’ll see the old Linde AG shares, which are identified as LNEGY^18.

Thank you.

I did not know that the advanced search could do so much more than the simple search e.g. looking for Praxair in ‘company name’ returns the information “Linde Plc Formerly known as Praxair Inc. (until 10/31/18)”

Good stuff!
