long / short in screener gives very wrong results

I’m running a screener. If I go long only, with the top 20 positions, I get a CAGR of 43.16%. If I go short only by putting “0 = 1” in the long rules, I get a CAGR of 10.95%. If I go long-short, I assumed I should get a CAGR in between those two. But instead I get a CAGR of 69.18%, which is utterly impossible. If I click on a date and I average all the numbers in the “Pct” column, I get a number far lower than the return for that date. What seems to be happening is that the simulation is doubling the average return on every rebalance date. I’m pretty sure the long-short screener isn’t supposed to work this way, right? Or are you assuming that when you go long-short you’re doing so on 2X margin? I’m a bit confused, never having done any long-short investing in real life. By the way, the same thing happens no matter what screen I try.

What are your long/short weights set to on the Backtest tab? If both are at 100% then yes you are levered 2x.

Ah, yes, that’s the problem. Thanks for your help!
