Figures and charts are slow to display

P123 Team
For a while now it takes up to half a minute to display figures and charts for sims, ports and screens. The performance numbers are displayed almost immediately, but the charts take some time to appear. This was much faster in the past. Please have a look at this.

Thanks

I see this too, Georg. Typically the reason this happens is an Internet routing issue near the Portfolio123 servers. Charts and other graphics are self-contained packages of data (bits) and must be transferred together. On the other hand, text is discrete with each letter in a sentence requiring a few bits. For this reason, text loads quickly, but graphics load slowly when there is an issue on the Internet at a server.

Usually, this is resolved within a few hours because there are automated systems to catch it and repair the issue. If not, someone will probably report it that is also having problems with that router node, and it will get fixed.

If the problem still exists on Monday, it needs to be raised directly with the P123 staff. I’ve found that emailing directly (rather than posting in the forums) is a more high probability approach to reaching them.

Monday morning now and the issue still hasn’t been resolved from what I can tell.

It was going on last week as well.

A change was introduced on April 11th which buffered image generation to completion before sending the response to the client in order to catch errors before attempting to write. This had the unfortunate side-effect of causing the client to wait that much longer for the transfer to begin. The code has been improved so that it works as it had before but should be better able to handle error cases. We’ll try to get the change out ASAP.
