Dividend History Data Issues

Hello,

I’m seeing inconsistencies in dividend history for many companies. For example, “OXY” has been a increasing regular dividend payer for the last 14 years (according to many sites) but P123 shows that regular dividend payment went down in Jan 2014. Can you pls look into this and find out why?

Thanks,

Sam

OXY’s December 2014 split is listed as a $3.03 cash equivalent dividend instead of a 1024:1000 split in the Compustat database. It looks like our servers might be erroneously including cash equivalent dividends for DivPS. I’ll have to look into it further and get back to you on it.

Aaron, fwiw - I’m pretty sure I was an owner of OXY at that time, and now have 1 share of spinoff CRC as a result. (It was initially maybe 10-20 shares, but they reverse split the stock after that and now it’s 1 share of CRC). I wonder if that is what you’re seeing.

Thanks for the details, Michael. It looks like there’s no issue with DivPS, but the default behavior isn’t what you might be expected. The default div_dt parameter is #PayDate. Here’s what you get if you instead chart DivPS(0, ANN, #Regular, #ExDate).

It’s weird that we chose the default or #paydate for DivPS (dividends in a fiscal period) and #exdate for DivPSDays (dividends paid in a time frame). Probably should be backwards.
