On June 26, 2017, Handy & Harman (HNH) and Steel Partners Holdings L.P. (SPLP) announced they entered into a definitive merger agreement. However, when I look at the ‘DaysFromMergerAnn’ for HNH it’s listed as “N/A”.

I have the Restriction set in my model not to allow Mergers, but this one slipped through. Is this a common occurrence where DaysFromMergerAnn is not necessarily accurate? Is there something else I need to do to insure Merger stocks are eliminated from selection?

I’ve had lots slip through. It’s made me more careful about checking the news for every ticker before I buy it.

I second doing a cursory once over on a company before you buy it. Something like this should show up on yahoo or google finance. Along with massive new litigation, recent significant management changes, a major customer event affecting their business, etc.
