SharesFD is the number of fully diluted shares, and, in the interests of fiscal conservativism, is the figure that we use for most per-share valuations on the site.
The factor form is a direct read of the shares line from the data provider, and it does not fall back if absent. If a fallback is desired, use, for example, SharesFD(0, QTR, FALLBACK).
