Accessing thousands of 10K's from SEC

I would like to study the consequence of insider buys by CEO’s, CFO’s and directors. Is there any automated way of downloading every companies SEC filings going back ten years? Any suggestions would be helpful.

That’s 1000’s of companies * 4 filings/yr * 10 yrs worth of filings. Even if the download process were automated, you’re looking at 200,000 some odd documents. Would you then manually extract the data you desire from those 200,000 filings?

Compustat has already gathered that data, and p123 has made it available to you. There are several “Insider” factors that should reflect the data you would hope to gather. And even better, p123 combines that insider data with the tools to measure any effects on price.

I think he’s looking for detailed insider data broken out by the insider title. We only have aggregate.

That data is in 6Ks or 8Ks, not sure which. Sec.gov has everything you need, BUT, It’s a gargantuous task since filings are not in computer readable (consistent) format.

CapIq has detailed insider info data. We do not license it though.
