The yield for SXL is listed as 13.63% when I screen for high yield stocks. Yet Yahoo Finance indicates the yield is 4.50%. After looking through the historical stock prices I concluded that Yahoo was publishing the correct number, not P123. Apparently there was a 3:1 split on Dec 5 of last year that hasn't been taken into account for the yield calculation. Beyond the fact that this stock has an incorrect yield, there is the bigger picture - is this a Reuters problem or is P123 calculating the yield wrong independently of Reuters? Either way there is a problem. If it is Reuters then it seems to me that the entire historical database is suspect. If P123, then how could such a basic programming error have been introduced? I was on the verge of a really good high yield sim but now have to shelve it until I understand this. Steve |

We're still using Reuters computed ratios and you're correct. The yield for SXL jumped 3x on the day of the split. We'll report it to reuters. We'll also examine other dividend paying stocks with splits to make sure it's only a specific problem with SXL. Thanks for reporting it. ---------------------------------------- Portfolio123 Staff |

I did some spot checks for stocks that have had dividends and slits and it appears that the yield values we captured are correct. So hopefully it's an isolated incident. We'll report the SXL issue and ask them why the split was not applied for the yield calculation. ---------------------------------------- Portfolio123 Staff |

You can see that Google Finance, powered by reuters, is also showing yield of 13%+ http://www.google.com/finance?q=sxl ---------------------------------------- Portfolio123 Staff |

Thanks for looking into this Marco. The reason I am so concerned is because of this (private) simulation http://www.portfolio123.com/port_summary.jsp?portid=859337 It seems too good to be true. I'd like to make sure it isn't amother Chaikin Indicators... Steve |

Reuters finally fixed the yield and two other dividend fields that were incorrect due to the split. Still waiting to hear what the cause was. The sim servers will need to be reloaded to correct the past . They will be corrected on Monday. Thanks again ---------------------------------------- Portfolio123 Staff |

FFTIQ/SOAP are a penny stock and yield was being calculated from a one time liquidation dividend. This was in the past so reuters won't fix it. This could be easily avoided by eliminating penny stocks, specially if dividends are part of the strategy. FRO is a tricky one. The dividends are irregular so the Yield is being calculated with some trailing logic (we think) rather than the more straight forward 4xlast dividend. However we think this company stopped dividends so yield should be 0 making reuters and yahoo (CapIQ) both incorrect. sigh. Not sure for BMBM, CMNR. The yiels are NA recently. Are you looking way in the past ? Thanks ---------------------------------------- Portfolio123 Staff |

I made a screen for stocks where the reported yield was inconsistent with the dividend paid line from the cash flow statement for TTM. After digging through it, I think these are a bit odd. Ticker / P123 Yield / What I think the yield is CEL / 19% / 10% ITWG / 59% / 0% OTT / 7% / 13% SKY / 0% / 5% TNE / 23% / 5% I'm pretty sure the 59% reported for ITWG is because of a special dividend.
