Just for fun, I thought I'd open up a new thread to give everyone a chance to post a short (preferably one sentence) description of a key lesson or insight that they are taking away from 2008.

(I refrain from adding my thoughts until later..)

Yes, there is simply no way to manage a portfolio without MARKET TIMING.

Marco: Are we going to see some more market timing tools / indicators any time soon?

The need to switch back and forth between multiple models (ranks/screens/cash) based on market timing

Risk Management using a combination of hedging, equity curve management (yes, I used to be against this...), and market timing; the key is to have a mix of ingredients and make a broth from a bit of all of them.

Timing, out of sample testing, recent vs. long term performance for rankings and sims.
