SIC Codes Reply to this Post

Hello all,

I am trying to figure out a way to screen out (or prevent from entering ranking results) companies purely formed for "acquisitions". The SIC classification is 6770. Can P123 screen by SIC code, or is there another way to prevent these companies from being included in a ranking system (by screen or otherwise). Thanks for any suggestions.

I also would like to make sure such stocks do not get included in my rankings. Perhaps they are already excluded (or at the bottom of the ranking) because they (usually?) lack fundamental data.

We are in the process of adding SIC and NAIC codes. We'll make them available in the screener. However they will not be Point-In-Time. In other words: if you run a screen in the past for a particular code, you might get companies that did not have that line of business in the past. Going forward we will keep a historical record of the changes.

Ted, If you can't wait for the release I can probably generate a list of companies for a particular code straight out of our database

Been on vacation. Thanks for the response. I can wait for your upgrade. Too bad about no PIT. A lot of short strategies seem to generate acquisition companies. If I narrow my universe to R1000, that might solve the problem. Thanks.
