Graphs not visible Reply to this Post

All:

Has anyone else had a problem with the interactive graphs not loading?

I get empty space where the graphs should appear on the Summary and the Performance Graphs. Same problem using Internet Explorer (ver. 7.0.5730) and FireFox (ver. 3.0.1).

Amazingly, I do get the graphs to load with AOL (9.0).

The graphs worked fine, started not working intermitently and have degraded over the last month until they never appear.

Any ideas?

Glenn,

I have EXACTLY the same problem. Graphs work on AOL 9.0, but not with Firefox/2.0.0.16 or IE7.0.6.

Did you ever figure out what the problem was?

Thanks,
George

I never did figure it out and it is frustrating! My suspicion is that there is some timeout issue with my internet connection. I am using a satellite connection through Hughes which is part of my satellite TV package. There is no cable or DSL available since I am kind of in the country outside San Francisco.

What do you use?

Glenn, I think that is the problem. When I was out of the country I used a G3 wireless modem and sometimes I could not see the graphs. Turns out that the page code was getting mangled up by some kind of weird re-direction they do for that technology. Try this:

When the graph doesn't show up open up the source code for the page by clicking on the browser View->Page Source (or Source in IE). The code to draw the charts should look like this:

<img src="/p123/PortTimeSeriesChartServlet?width=500&height=300&id......

It's located towards the bottom of the page and there should be three similar commands, one for each page. See if you can post it here.

Thanks

Marco:

Here is the code from IE -

<img src="/p123/PortTimeSeriesChartServlet?width=300&height=300&id=lineSeries&1220466460422" style="border-color: gray" border=1 width=300 height=300>

I have also attached all the code in notepad.

Thanks for looking into this.

Glenn,

It sounds like the satellite connection is the common factor. I also use Hughes satellite and don't have any problems except on P123. You are right it is really frustrating.

I hope Marco can figure out what is going on.

It used to work OK, but I don't know if it stopped working because of something that changed on Marco's end or Hughes'.

I went to a friend's house yesterday and it worked OK with Verizon FIOS.

Our only salvation for now is it works via satellite if we use AOL's 9.0 client as our "browser".

GO Marco!!!!!!!

Thanks, George

Good to know who the culprit is. I have the fastest Hughes connection that they have. You are right that it used to work and now doesn't. I actually got a graph to show a few days ago. One out of maybe 50. That is the only time it has worked recently. Let's hope Marco can figure something out.

Guys,
I just setup my laptop with a AT&T wireless 3G card and I was having the same problem - no graphs would display on P123.

I fiddled around in the settings in the Communication Manger that installed with the card. There is a setting labled "Selective Image Retrieval" in the advanced settings of the acceleration setup. Once I turned this off, all the graphs have appeared. You probably have some similar setting that you can turn off to solve your problems. You might have to call their support to find it.

Dan:
Thanks for the insights. From your comments I understand you were working in the setup program for the wireless card, not windows or IE or Firefox. I spent a fair amount of time with tech support and searching for key words you mentioned. Could not resolve my problem.

George:

I no longer think it is a satellite connection problem. This website is the PNG home site and I can view all their .png images without a problem. If I can see .png files with all browsers except at P123, that points me to P123. I think the problem is with P123's feeding of the image and, what seems to me, the Id of the image getting scrambled by the servelet.

Maybe Marco could take a look at this again. AOL 9.0 works. IE 7.0 and Firefox 5.0 do not work for me on P123.. I found a lot of discussion of loading problems caused by older versions of IE.

I may have a solution. Can you try the following:

Click on any Port/Sim (in the example below I'm using P123's GARP $100K

Your browser should now be pointing to a URL like

http://www.portfolio123.com/port_summary.jsp?portid=171479

Now change the URL to:

http://www.portfolio123.com/port_summary2.jsp?portid=171479

Let me know if you see the graph. If this works we can apply this change in the next release.
