Something tells me Portfolio123 users are better than average users of Excel so I was hoping someone could help me with a basic data manipulation problem I've been having. When trying to move around lists of tickers from one program or financial website to another, I frequently run into the problem of not being able to easily copy and paste lists of tickers. The problem is that when I copy a list from excel into the clipboard it is formatted so that the various tickers are ordered vertically and tab delimited. I've solved this by using a preparatory step of using Paste Special and transposing the data onto a separate worksheet so that it appears horizontally and then I save the worksheet as a .prn file so it's formatting is space delimited or to .csv so it is comma delimited depending on the requirements of the application or website I'm exporting to. Is there an easier way? ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by Sterling at Dec 9, 2007 8:01:51 AM] |

Sterling, Try this... 1- Copy and paste from the original onto a blank excel sheet. 2- Now copy it again and >>paste special>>Values only onto a second and final excel sheet. This final sheet will be a fully formatted excel sheet and will allow you to copy/paste the column of symbols without further formatting required. Here's a handy tool that does what you want, changing a list from vertical to horizontal format (or conversely). Accepts up to 1000 tickers. ---------------------------------------- The smart money was on Goliath. "He's not the Messiah. He's a very naughty boy." |
