I am looking for a program to manage my multiple accounts on InteractiveBrokers, preferably running on Mac OS. I would like to automatically retrieve transactions from IB, tag each position with a custom text field, calculate P&L and setup a benchmark to compare risk/returns. I trade about 7/8 positions a day, so manually entering my transactions is a no-go. Even downloading a transactions file every day from my IB accounts would be tedious. TradeLog looks good, but it's for Windows only. PortfolioOptions runs on Mac OS (I believe it was developed in Java). Do you know of any other product? I am interested in hearing the experience of other members dealing with the tasks that I mentioned. ---------------------------------------- [Edit 2 times, last edit by probtrader at Jun 18, 2007 8:22:40 AM] |

I use Fund Manager on Win XP but out of curiosity checked their site for Mac and found this comment on their Forum, you may like to explore. http://www.fundmanagersoftware.com/wwwboard/messages/9837.html |

I use Parallels on a MacBook Pro to run Windows-only programs and have had zero problems. Windows and the Windows programs runs as fast on the Mac with Parallels as they do natively on a Windows machine (sometimes faster). If you like the Mac try out Parallels and run your old Windows-only portfolio management software. I believe Parallels offers a free trial. You could also try a similar emulator program from VMWare. Boot Camp runs great as well, however you have to reboot the computer when you want to switch between operating systems. |

Does FundManager automate the task of downloading transactions from IB? From what I've read on their website, they only support OCX files uploads, which means you have to log in on your brokerage account first, generate the file, then go to FundManager and upload the transactions. |

You might try asking Mark, the developer, he is a good guy and will work with you if there is a solution, I just use it to have all my investments "under one roof" and update every day. |

This is quite helpful thread everyone. Thank you for letting us know of these options. I am wondering what you think pro/con about the different alternatives. Are FundManager and TradeLog the main two packages that individual investors/traders should consider using if they don't want to use Quicken, MS Money or Excel? Do you find the more expensive version of FundManager to be worth it or is personal version adequate for most people when using P123 for multiple pots plus separate tracking of MF's and ETF's, with mutiple brokers and multple accounts (including IB, FolioFn) for different family members? Quicken is no longer friendly to FolioFn right now (can't import .qif format FolioFn offers), although FolioFn tells me they will offer Quicken compatibility for the new versions of Quicken later in this year. Along with using P123 portfolio, I have been using Excel manually up to now, but although I like the ability in Excel to customize my layout and make trading notes, I like very much the idea of automatic updating and tracking transactions. Are there other approaches that folks here find useful? I think CapTools is no longer option for individual. Thank you very much. ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by KAR at Jun 18, 2007 12:39:03 PM] |

CapTools is web-only. I emailed support a couple of times to learn if I could automate the transactions download and didn't get any reply. From the instructions on the web site I understand you must download an OCX file first from your brokerage account. |

Have been using this software for several years and it meets my needs, I track all my investments including MF,Stocks,ETF from different brokerages, once setup is just a breeze to update after closing. Basically have a Portfolio with sub portfolios, for instance I have a subport named 123, then created a sub sub for each such as Garp,Value, etc.one look at 123 tells me where I am at, then look at each pot, each one can be graph. May want to have subports for Long term, B/H, Foreign, Bonds etc. In my case have my wife and mine in the same portfolio as they are all IRA related. I keep track of my daughter on a different portfolio. I do not use it for options as have not find the need but I believe can be done, for the dividends I enter them manually as do not want to screw things up but again I think can be done. Mark offers a trial offer and that will be the best way . "Are FundManager and TradeLog the main two packages that individual investors/traders should consider using" I think the individual will do fine for most people, remember you may have as many portfolio/accounts as needed. I'm assuming you're refering to FundManager. The interface looks neat but I'm having problems downloading transactions from Interactive Brokers. Apparently IB is not in the list of their supported brokers. |
