We are pleased to announce the launch of the Portfolio123 Screener. The Screener is an extremely powerful tool and the only one of its type in the marketplace. It provides one of a kind screening that combines over 500 technical, industry and fundamental factors with ranking systems. In addition, the screener allows you to use these analytical tools with both current and historical data. We invite you try out the beta version which is now running on the site here.

As always, your input and suggestions are greatly appreciated and play an integral part in our development efforts.

Interesting that there are 187 views of this post and not one response.??
This is a tremendous time saver if you don't blindly accept the system's first picks. Buying at the right price and chart formation and on the right day is important, so I think it pays to research the list without starting ports. over and deleting. Question:how can a screen be edited or deleted? And how do you get a list of stocks from the leading industries only? The screen parameters seem different from the sims. and ports. Thanks.

Editing a screen is simple: just type whatever criteria you want in the rules. You must press the 'Save' button to commit your changes. To copy a P123 screen, just click on 'Save As'. To delete is also simple: just select the screens you want to delete from the 'My Screens' tab and click the delete button.

To filter for a particular industry, for example Semiconductors, use the 'Industry' function in one of the rules. For example entering

Industry = SEMICO And MktCap > 100 And MktCap < 500

Will return semiconductor companies with a Market Cap between 100M and 500M. You can see all the Industry codes by clicking on 'Full Description' in the reference section below the rules.

Hope this helps.

This is probably already in the works, but here goes.

It would be nice to copy the criteria from a screen to the buy rules and ranking used on a new simulation.

From the simulation side, it would be nice to look at a simulation point in time via a screen.

For example, when reviewing the historical performance of a simulation, sometimes you notice a sharp drawdown for a particular week or month. It would be nice to use the screen tool to investigate what happened during that time.

One idea may be to have a [1/1/2001] [To Screener] date field and a button available when viewing a sim or portfolio. It would take you to a screener at that point in time, based on the buy rules of the sim or portfolio.

Thanks for listening.

Marco,

It would really simplify things if the input rules were explained in more detail and not so complicated. Maybe it's just me, but I have a hard time figuring out the proper way to enter them and the "find" box is very vague and will only give search results if the terms are entered properly. Catch-22. Is it possible to give a better description of what each abbreviation is used for? Or what a certain combination will find?

Rick,

The find is actually very flexible, it searches for any matches within the name of the factor AND the short description. For example if you type 'sales' and click on 'Find', the first match is 'Pr2SalesPTM'. If you click 'Find' again, it will take you to the next one 'Pr2SalesQ', etc. Likewise, entering 'employee' in the Find box, will match factors like 'IncPerEmpQ' since 'employee' is used in the 'Short Description'

Also if you double-click on the factor it will be inserted in whatever rule you we editing. For example to insert it in Rule 3, click inside Rule 3, then double-click on the factor in the 'Factor/Function' list, and it will be appended to whatever is in Rule 3.

Hope this helps. We'll have guided tutorials soon which will be a lot easier to follow.

Gdon,

I think the historical screener is what you want. We are still working on it, but in short it will let you run a screen in the past. What we can easily do is add a link below the Sim Name that populates a screen with the buy or sell rules. Right now the following options are available in the main page for a Sim:

[Re-run Simulation] [Create Portfolio] [Run Simulation]

We could add:

[Screen w/Buy Rules] [Screen w/Sell Rules]

What this would do is copy the Buy or Sell rules to a new historical screen and set the ranking system. It will then be up to you to enter the date in the past. It will return the stocks that pass the screen and show the rank on that day in the past.

Would this work?

[Screen w/Buy Rules] [Screen w/Sell Rules]

Would be perfect. I think it should also set the ranking system to be that of the portfolio or sim.

Neat feature!

I don't think this feature makes sense anymore. The problem is that some of the Buy/Sell rules include functions that act on the portfolio and are meaningless in a screener context. For example the Buy rule 'IndWeight<30' eliminates stocks from being bought in a portfolio if the resulting allocation in the new stock's industry exceeds 30%.

This feature could still be implemented but in a lot of cases you'll get an error because the rules are using functions that are not available to screening. Let me know if you think this is still useful though. Thanks.
