I have a question about how ticker changes are handled. If you take a look at the Momentum Value rankings of last January 2005 and limit the universe to SP500 stocks you will find at rank 163 the symbol T. This same symbol also appears at rank index 304. I assume that one of these is AT&T and the other SBC, but how can we tell which is which? Is there a way to also get the CUSIP? Thanks, Eric |

Seems that some of SBC's descriptive data was overwritten. We'll update the symbol, name and description for the real SBC and the problem should be solved. There also appears to be a bad 'ticker change' for AT&T. Thanks ---------------------------------------- Portfolio123 Staff |

This is a confusing one. SBC acquired AT&T but then took over the symbol T *and* name. So the ticker change is correct. Looks like the only way to fix this is to just give the old AT&T a different symbol. Any suggestions? Isn't branding just amazing? ---------------------------------------- Portfolio123 Staff |

So from my perspective I would like to know the "as of" ticker, in order to know what stock had what ranking on the "as of date" so that I can use my own price database to construct decile returns, etc. The "as of" ticker would be SBC. Also in January of last year there are two "S" names which I assume is probably Sprint and Nextel, but if we go back far enough should be Sears. Alternatively, if the excel download could include the CUSIP, I could use that with my price database. Actually that might be best if you have that info available as it would resolve conflicts and uniquely identify everything. Also if the company no longer exists the CUSIP could be used in place of the ticker so that there would always be 500 stocks that show up in a screen in the SP500 universe. -Eric |
